Greetings, Urbana Family and Friends,

As we close the school year, we have much to celebrate! I hope you find many glimmers for you and your students as we wrap up another wonderful year together!

As we enter our final week of school and conclude Mental Health Awareness Month, continue to reflect on what Mental Health America calls a “good day”. “Good” doesn’t have to mean happy or productive. It might mean calm, manageable, or something else. What counts as good can change over time, and only you can define what a good day looks like to you. 

Over the past couple of weeks, the USD116 Community has experienced, and will continue to experience, many good days worth celebrating. 

Graduation was a tremendous success!  Hats off once again to the graduating class of 2026! Thank you to the class sponsors, counselors, administrators, and staff who made the evening special for our graduates, friends, and families! Your dedication made the celebration truly special. If you would like to relive or view any of those special moments, you can watch the ceremony or some of the graduates participating in Grad Walks 2026: Grad Walks (fb) and Grad Walks 2026 with school pics.  

Our celebrations continue as we recognize our fifth-grade and eighth-grade students preparing to transition to their next chapter of learning.

Shout out to our Urbana Tigers Track and Field Athletes! Several middle school and high school track and field athletes are representing Urbana at the state level over the next two weeks through IESA and IHSA competitions. We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and Tiger spirit of our athletes and coaches.

We are also excited to celebrate an incredible milestone for Dr. Williams Elementary School. Urbana School District will receive $336,000 in federal funding from Senator Duckworth to support the development of a Community Model School at Dr. Williams Elementary School. This funding will help expand programs and services designed to support students, families, and the broader community by strengthening partnerships, increasing access to resources, and creating more opportunities for student and family success: What is a Community School?

Upcoming Dates

May 25: No School (Memorial Day)

May 29: The last day of school for students in grades K through 11.

May 28: The last day of school for Urbana Early Childhood School
 

Register Your Returning Student

Returning student registration is open until July 16. Register online using Skyward Family Access. If you need help with online registration, please email onlineregistration@usd116.org.

If you prefer to register your student in person, please mark your calendar for our Centralized Registration event at Urbana Middle School:
  • July 30 from 12 to 6 p.m.
  • July 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event is a one-stop shop where you can register your student, access walk-in physicals and immunizations, meet staff from the schools, pay fees, confirm free and reduced eligibility, learn about after-school care, and more.

Whether you plan to register in person or online, all students must be registered by July 31. Yellow bus riders will not have transportation the first week of school if they are not registered by July 31.
 

Attention Families of Incoming K/6/9/12 Grade Students

Students entering kindergarten, 6th grade, and 9th grade must have a physical by the first day of school. Students in 12th grade also have an immunization requirement. Please schedule your physicals and immunization appointments as soon as possible. Students without a physical will not be able to attend on the first day. 

Physicals, dental services, and more are available at the Urbana School-Based Health Center, located next to Urbana High School. To schedule an appointment, please call (217) 356-1558.

You can also visit the Carle Mobile Health Clinic: Schedule for Carle Mobile Health Clinic. The Carle Mobile Health Clinic will be at Salt and Light in Urbana on June 10 and June 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointments are necessary.

Please do not wait to schedule an appointment. We do not want our students to miss the important first days of school.
 

Register for Tiny Tigers Preschool at UHS

The Tiny Tigers Program for ages 2-5 at Urbana High School has openings for the 2026-27 School Year.

The Tiny Tigers program is designed to foster growth through play-based learning. With a 1:1 student-to-teacher ratio, your child receives the personalized attention they deserve.

Schedule
Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
Time: 9:10 AM – 10:30 AM

Girls Track State Qualifiers

Congratulations to the following Urbana High School Students who qualified for the Track and Field State Championship!

  • Lillian DiSanto qualified in Shot Put
  • Marley Yau qualified in the 800M
  • Kaleigh Bell qualified in both the 100M and 200M

Congratulations to the following Urbana Boys Track and Field Team athletes who will compete next Friday in the state championship:

Their performance ranks them 4th in Urbana school History

  • His time broke the Urbana junior class record that has been in place since 1936!

UMS/SGC Track and Field

The SGC/UMS Track and Field Teams have several athletes competing at the State Championship this weekend. Congratulations to all the athletes!

UHS Baseball

The UHS Baseball Team held its annual game against the Urbana Police Department and Urbana Fire Department -- with UHS walking away with bragging rights.

Thank you to our community who showed up to support our players. The money raised during this event will support the team through this season and into next season as well.

UHS Music Educator Honored

Stacey Peterik was recognized in this month's Music Education Arts Magazine as one of this years "50+ Music Teachers who Make A Difference."

Stacey works with students across many grade levels, from elementary to high school marching band and more. We are fortunate to have her expertise in USD116.
