Gone Fishing

UMS WaterWorks students participate in sampling and identification of aquatic species in the Salt Fork River. Under the instruction of Illinois Natural History Survey scientists Ed DeWalt and Carie Nixon, students learned the art of seining (fishing using a type of net called a sein). They collected numerous fish and invertebrates and learned about the various species and their dependence on the Salt Fork River ecosystem.
