Team Three was awarded fourth place in the national contest in the Arts and Literature category. Each student
received $1500, a trophy, and backpack. Each coach received $3000, a trophy, and attache. UMS received a
Cisco Systems Micro Webserver 200 and $750.
During the 1997-98 school year, three teams of sixth grade students participated
in the first ThinkQuest Junior contest. Team One developed "E.A.R.T.H.'S Environments" (Students: Caitlin Vitosky, Evan Dorner,
Heather Ginger, Emily Swan, and Nafisah Sheikh. Coaches: Jan Kempe, Pam Van Walleghen).
Team Two developed "Zoom to the Moon" (Students: Umair Irfan, Varan Chalirendra, Chris Beasley. Coaches:
Jane Cain, Pam Van Walleghen). Team Three
created "Pegasus' Paradise" (Students: Abigail Peters, Noni Fineberg, Katie Firmand, Natalie Prochuska. Coaches:
Barb Thoma, Pam Van Walleghen).
