Well, at the first session we basically just got a feel for the new program,
and we tried making some new things. Although our old world wasn't there, we
decided to add it in next time, and we began working on a barn. However, we had
a little trouble making it, and instead made a field of grass and a cow. The
cow looks very abstract, but we like it. The new program is not that different
from the old one, and actually we think it is much easier to use. Lucy wasn't there, but
Sarah and I did manage to get quite a bit of work done.
This time we grouped and cloned the cow that we made last session, and changed
the colors. A few are brown, some are a creamy white, and others are white with
black spots. Then we put a fence around the grassy field, which was difficult
because we kept making the poles too long and skinny and the program wouldn't let us make them.
Then, since our old world had been added in, we made a brown-colored path from the "door" of
our hause to one of the sides of the pasture. Next time we might make a gate, or some
grass for underneath the pathway. Once again, Lucy wasn't there, but Sarah and I
are still getting a lot done. With the new program, we are getting much more done
than last year. Also, I think it helps that we have some experience, even if we
keep accidentally touching the joystick and moving the
world around.
Last week at the CAVE we created a well with a texture like water inside.
We made the texture partway transparent, and then we created grass to connect
the house and pasture. We also made grass to go under the well, which is beside
the pathway. Then we cloned a cow and put him in the air so it looked like
he was flying into the tornado. We also made the word "moo" beside him.
Next week we will probably put a light around the tornado so it will look a
little foggy, and we donžt want to put fog becuase it would cover up the cows
and the other scenery. We also might create a pond near the pasture, perhaps
with a few ducks and fish as well. We also want to make more grass so that it's
obvious it's a prarie.
In our last two sessions, we started to create a barn, complete with a
roof and a floor, and we left one side open as the door. Then we copied
our cow and pasted him three times into the barn, and changed the colors
and textures so that one was brown, one was white, and the last had
black spots on a white backround. Then we created a path up to the barn
(which we made red for the walls and black texture for the roof). The next
week was when we copied and pasted some more corn to make the plot bigger,
and we finished up our barn. We also got to see the cube, which was really
cool! Yesterday was when we showed our parents what we had done, and so
to show them a little bit about how the CAVE works, we created a chicken
and copied and pasted him to make a few more chickens. We ran into a problem
though...we couldn't move them! Whenever we tried to move a chicken, it
thought we were trying to strech out the corners! We had to paste the
chickens lower to the ground instead. Then for our video tape we created
a path from the barn to our corn plot, and along the front of the corn.
