Track and Field
Track and Field at UMS follows the IESA season, which begins around the first of March for practices and ends with the State Meet in mid-to-late May. Sign ups will open shortly after Winter Break and last through February. Events include sprints, middle distance, and long distance (100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 meters), hurdles, relays (4×100, 200, 400 meters), long and high jump, shot put and discus, and pole vault.
Sign ups are in January and February with practice starting around the first of March. All athletes need a current physical (good for 13 months), Athletic Participation Card, and an Athletic Fee of $50 ($25 if reduced, or free depending on financial status). We make every effort to include all interested student-athletes. Based on early practices, we will assign events based on ability, effort, and attitude (as well as academic eligibility). Not everyone is guaranteed participation at meets as spots are limited, but we make our best effort to involve all team members who attend and give full effort at whatever events they are assigned.
Our teams have earned four State trophies over the past three years, one 4th place, two 3rd place, and last year’s 8AA Girls State Runner Up. We also have added six individual or relay State Titles over the past three seasons along with an already successful history of the UMS program. Check out our new banners in the gym and the overflowing trophy case!
