Health/Physical Education Department
Physical development is education of, by, and through human movement. Urbana Middle School physical development classes are taught with this goal in mind: supporting the preparation of the whole student, mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally to lead an active and useful life in society. Our physical education program aims to develop in our students an optimum level of physical fitness and skill performance, to help our students find enjoyment in participation in physical activities, and to develop a knowledge and understanding of the importance of continuing, and a desire to continue physical activity for life. Physical development classes meet daily at all three grade levels. Every class begins with a warm-up for activity, instruction in skills, and knowledge of rules and phrases related to the activity. An emphasis on fitness completes the curriculum.
