Urbana Middle School Health

Health is a required semester course at UMS
Health education is a lesson in life. We will cover
the body and how it works; mental health and our reactions
to happenings in daily life; nutrition and how to fuel our
precious body machine, and consumer education where we learn
to utilize all forms of the media to our advantage. The American
Red Cross Standard First Aid course is taught with many life saving
skills learned. Through the substance abuse unit we will research
a variety of drug topics and become more aware of dangers that these
can cause to our bodies. A communicable and non-communicable
disease unit will stress how important it is to stay healthy and help
us learn how to do this. In the growth and development unit we will
learn about the miracle of life and how we continually grow and change.
Adolescents are in an extremely fast period of change and growth and
it is important for them to be aware of these changes. Come join us
on this adventure in life and growth.
