Bus Riding Rules
Responsibilities of Students Using School Transportation
Riding a bus to and from school is a privilege extended to students that can be taken away for disruptive or unsatisfactory conduct. All students being transported are under the authority of the bus driver and monitor and must obey his/her requests. Specific regulations are posted on the buses. School rules and consequences are applicable while riding the bus.
- The Bus Driver and Monitor must be obeyed at all times.
- Students must enter and exit the bus in an orderly manner.
- Students must go directly to their seat with face forward and feet in front of seat.
- Students must remain in their seat.
- Loud, distracting noises or unruly behavior is not permitted.
- Eating or drinking is not allowed.
- Students must not throw objects inside or out of the windows.
- Students must not talk at railroad crossings.
- Students’ possessions (i.e. backpacks, band instruments) must not occupy a seat on the bus.
- Hands and heads must remain inside the bus not outside the windows.
- Windows should not be adjusted.
- Students should not approach, touch, or run after a bus.
NOTE: Items left on the MTD should be picked up at the Illinois Terminal Building.
NOTE: Students who violate school rules while riding a bus are subject to disciplinary action which may include a bus suspension.
NOTE: When gross misconduct occurs on an MTD bus, it is the policy of MTD to notify the police for assistance.
REPLACEMENT COST FOR A STUDENT ID/BUS PASS IS $5.00.
$2.00 if you turn in your old one.
