The Washington Hawthorn lives mostly in the eastern part of the United States, where they are confined mostly to the southern temperature zones. Washington Hawthorn is a scrub or a small tree, with a short trunk. The height of the Hawthorn is about 30 feet and the trunk is 1 foot wide. It likes the moist soil of valleys. The Washington Hawthorn has a crown of upright branches. It has many small white flowers in late spring. The flowers have 5 white petals.

The leaves are either broad ovals,triangular, 3-lobed. They are pointed at the tip and saw-toothed. They are shiny dark green on top, lighter underneath and can be tinged with red. In the fall they turn scarlet or orange. The bark of this tree is usally light brown, smooth, thin, and scaly.
