Acer rubrum
The Red maple, a tree that can truely be called a diamond in the rough, grows on places
where it exceeds the beauty of other trees. It grows in swamps or low lands
where it shares root space with such trees as the cypress, black ash, and the various
gums that grow in the damp forests. It can also be found in hard wood forests where
it is dwarfed by the other behemoths.
It is a large tree with a height that can excede 70 feet and a trunk that can be
3-5 feet in diameter. It got its name, Red Maple, from the red leaves that it gains in
the fall early on. It's leaves always contain a tinge of scarlet. It also has names that
are slightly more poetic such as scarlet maple and the swamp maple. This, truely is a
beautiful tree.
