Quercus palustria
Pin Oaks are usually grown for street or ornamental trees not for lumber
purposes. It grows mostly in the east part of the United States. Pin Oaks prefer very
moist soil.
These trees are of moderate size, 85 or 95 feet tall, and the trunks can
reach about 3 feet in diameter. Sometimes in a forest you can find a Pin Oak 120
feet in hight and a trunk that is 4-5 feet in diameter. The bark can be anywhere from
three quarters to one and a quarter inches deep.
Pin Oak leaves are 3-6 inches long and have 5-9 lobes, are firm, dark green and
shiny. They are simple and bristle tiped. The petioles of a Pin Oak leaf are one and
a half to two inches long. The acorns often have white stripes.
