Aceraceae
The Boxelder is of the Aceraceae family.It is usually 40- 50 feet high
with a 2-3 foot diameter. It has a short crooked trunk which usually
separates into several irregular branches. The leaves grow opposite each other
and are compound with 3-7 stalked leaflets. Each leaflet is irregularly toothed.
The leaflets normally grow 2-5 inches long and 1-2 inches wide. The leaves are
pointed at the tips and are sometimes 3 lobed. They are pale on the under surface.
In the autumn the leaves turn yellow before falling. The Boxelder's range extends
from New England to Florida, and west over much of the U.S, small areas in
California and the Rocky Mountains and north to southern Manitoba,Saskatchewan and
Alberta.
