The first visit is filled with getting to know you activities to get everyone
comfortable with each other.
A. The Name Game We played the Name Game to get to know each others name
on our first visit. In the name game you have a ball and you say your name
and throw it to some one different and say their name. This continues on until it seems
like everyone knows each others name. Then we played where you had to say the name
of the person that you were throwing the ball to. This tested our name memorization skills!
B. CharadesWe played charades in order to get to know something about
each other. In our charade game we had a person get in the middle of a
circle and act out something that they like to do such as basketball or reading.
C. Reading To end our visit we let our kindergarten buddies pick an eighth grader
that they would like to work with. We then read books and worked on letter and
number recognition that their kindergarten teacher had prepared for us to do.
March 5 Second Visit
Today we did an art activity. We let the kindergarten students pick
an eight grade students that they wanted to work with. We had they students draw
pictures on big sheets of white paper. We had them dictate to us what they were
drawing and we wrote it down on the paper.
After we finished the art activity we finished up the visit with reading activities.
Some of the kindergarten students read to us, and some of the eighth grade students
read to the kindergarten students.
