Your required summer homework is posted at
www.usd116.org/lbeuschlein/summer_work/
In order to prepare students adequately for AP exams and courses, it is necessary that all students complete this review/prep work by the first day of the new school year. Your teacher will expect it to be done well and will count it toward your grade.

2. Students who enrolled will be given a packet from their biology teacher. THEY DO NOT NEED A TEXT. Anyone who registers later or loses the packet can obtain the info and download the pdf file from the following site:
http://www.usd116.org/lbeuschlein/summer_work/.
3. Contact Alicia Burge, Rich Geiger, or Dennis Migut for help. The webpage also contains a few links to help students.

II. Pick up your textbook as soon as possible, and start reading chapters one through five, and sections 8.4 and 8.5.
a. You will need to prepare handwritten sentence outlines of chapters 1, 3, and 4. Enclosed is a handout to help with the outline structure. b. For chapters 2 and 5, construct handwritten concepts maps. See the backside of this handout for a list of vocabulary words that must be incorporated into your concept maps. For help with concept mapping, you can visit the following web sties:
http://classes.aces.uiuc.edu/ACES100/Mind/CMap.html
http://users.edte.utwente.nl/lanzing/cm_home.htm
c. You will need to write out the definitions for the attached vocabulary list for chapters 1-5 and chapter 8. These may be typed on a word processor.
III. Write a report on the book Complications by Atul Gwande (ISN # 0-312-42170-2)
I am certain that Borders or Barnes and Nobel can order the book for you. The cost is $15.00 It is available on line at Amazon (New $10.98 and used $2.45. Go to www.amazon.com. Do not wait until the end of the summer to buy and read this book.

2. Purchase one or all of the texts for this class so you can highlight and annotate the books as we go through them.
