About Our UHS Guidance and Counseling Site . . .

Thanks for visiting our little stop on the Internet. This site is a work in progress. However, I do want to give some credit to the people and organizations that have been very helpful in getting it to where it is today.

Urbana District 116 and Urbana High School have very nice, more complex pages which were started by former District 116 Technology Coordinators Jim Peterson and Terri Schoone and former UHS physics teacher Michael Hinton. As part of the Urbana District 116 inservice program for the 1996-97 year, Jim and Mike taught novices how to construct web pages using raw HTML. It was through that program that I got the idea that we needed a departmental page. I found other schools' pages, attended regional professional conferences and heard of good sites, and began to create our site. My big help lately has been UHS Tech Integrationist Carol Godoy.

Once we had a basic site with some information for student use, we needed an easy means for students to access the site from our office. A grant proposal for a Macintosh computer and laser printer was written and submitted to the C-U Community Schools Foundation. That grant for "Accessing Guidance and Counseling Resources on the Internet" was fully funded, the district wired our office, and we now have had the equipment up and running for student use accessing web resources and composing and printing application and scholarship essays. We've moved beyond where we were in '97 to keep as up to date as we can with the technology available to us. My thanks to Terri and Carol for helping me out when I have questions ranging from why something doesn't work to "Can you believe that another school stole my entire site and posted it as their own?" Life is interesting......

Once you've clicked around our site, please take a minute to click back on our title page (the "table of contents") and drop me a message giving feedback for what was or was not helpful, how you used the site, or suggestions on how to make it more useful. Our goal is to have an excellent resource for our public: the students, teachers, parents, and residents of Urbana District 116 and our whole WWW! Your comments are appreciated.
