Year Ends with Awards Concerts!
The UHS Wind Symphony Awards Concert was held on Monday, May 18th. This concert concluded the 2008-09 school year concert season. The following 10 graduating seniors where honored: Rudi Bredemeier, Ian Ferguson, Chris Keeley, Benjamin King, Jitenga Knox, Brian Lee, Aubrey Morse, Daniel Rear, Julie Weatherhead, and Gibson Wirth.
The following awards were presented to deserving students:
First Chair Awards – In recognition of outstanding musical performance during the school year, and for displaying those qualities of leadership, dedication and cooperation which have contributed to the excellence of the ensemble: Aubrey Morse – Flute, Elise Ellinger – Oboe, Marcia Morrison – Oboe, Amy Shea – Oboe, Chris Keeley – Bassoon, Kameron LeShoure – Clarinet, Marshall Jackson - Alto Saxophone, Jeremy Loui - Alto Saxophone, Benjamin King – Trumpet, Ian Ferguson – Horn, Lily Smith – Trombone, Rudi Bredemeier – Euphonium, Gibson Wirth - Tuba.
Merit Award – In recognition of outstanding contributions, leadership, and service to the school instrumental music program: Daniel Rear
Musicianship Award – In recognition of outstanding musicianship and distinguished musical contributions: Brian Lee, Jitenga Knox, Julie Weatherhead
Louis Armstrong Jazz Award – Chris Keeley
John Philip Sousa Award – In recognition of outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, for singular merit in loyalty and cooperation, and for displaying those high qualities of conduct that school instrumental music requires: Ian Ferguson
Outstanding Senior Awards –Ian Ferguson, Chris Keeley, Benjamin King, Brian Lee
Lions Club Award – The trophy is given and maintained by the Urbana Lions Club and a scholarship of $100 is given by the Champaign Lions Club: Ian Ferguson
The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Darren Hicks, USD #116 Music Coordinator and the Jazz Band director is Leif Hall.
