Magazine Lists UHS as One of Best
High Schools in the Nation
For the third straight year, U.S. News &
World Report has listed the best high schools in the nation,
and Urbana High School has received a bronze-level award
for 2009. The magazine surveyed 21,786 high schools in the
country and recognized 1,750 of them for “considerably
outperforming their state standards."
A total of 70 high schools in the state received
national recognition. There were only two Champaign County
High Schools recognized by U.S. News & World Report.
Urbana High School received a bronze-level award.
“I am honored to have the efforts and
commitment of the UHS educators recognized by U.S. News
& World Report,” says UHS Principal, Dr. Laura
Taylor. She continues, “Over the past few years, we
have worked very hard as a learning community to support
all of our students, and it is always nice to receive confirmation
that what we are doing is valued.”
District 116 Superintendent, Dr. Preston L.,
Williams, Jr., comments, “I congratulate Dr. Taylor,
the administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, and
the UHS learning community as a whole for this honor. Good
things are happening at Urbana High School and it is exciting
to see others validate this.”
