Project Pass is used in this course to explore the area
of American History. Areas covered range from 1900 to
present. This class covers the basics of our constitution as well
as the Bill of Rights, the three branches of our government,
rights as citizens, voting rights, duties and powers of each
branch of government including city, state and the federal
aspects of the government. Speech Communications This course focuses on effective communication skills,
rights and responsibilities, conflict resolution and
productive decision making skills. Exploration in the mental & physical health related
topics. Math 01-02 (9-12) is a course for students who require
instruction in basic math skills and are below academic
standard for the regular Math courses. Students review
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals,
fractions, and other topics covered in the basic mathematics
curriculum. Classroom materials are gathered from a variety
of sources for use in this course. American Studies English To increase reading & writing competency through the
use of novels such as: Finding Forrester, Night to
Remember, Dangerous Minds, Bless the Beasts & Children,
Something for Joey and Chicken Soup for the Soul. Other
expectations include: task completion, making productive
choices and working cooperatively in a group setting. Two
sections are offered for this class; the other section
focuses more intensely on writing and vocabulary skills
through the use of a variety of literature. The students study physical science and how it is related
to everyday life. Students will improve life science knowledge and skills
as well as improve strategies related to academic
success. This class provides instruction in basic skills of
reading, as well as reading skills needed to function
independently, understand various forms of literature, and
read for content and pleasure. A variety of materials are
used including newspapers, magazines, phone books, labels,
recipes, plays and books. An emphasis is placed on on
writing and increasing vocabulary as well. S.T.E.P. (Secondary Transitional Experience Program) is a
training/placement program that prepares students with
disabilities for transition to employment and community
participation during and after high school. The five themes of geography are carried throughout the
semester in this class: location, place, movement,
interaction and region. Other aspects studied are: the
physical aspects of the place and the culture of the people.
Art, music, folk tales, food and literature are presented to
enhance the learning experience. This course is multi-faceted and consists of the
following components: one-on-one instruction; tutoring;
teaching methods to help students learn study skills,
research strategies & computer skills; teaching
compensatory skills; and supplemental activities which
support students' individual needs & goals. English 01-02 (9,10) is a course for Freshman/Sophomores
who require instruction in reading or writing skills and are
below academic standard for regular English courses.
Students review the parts of speech and learn basic writing
skills. Reading comprehension skills along with vocabulary,
spelling and writing are emphasized. Classroom materials are
gathered from a variety of sources for use in this
course. This course focuses on effective communication skills,
rights and responsibilities, conflict resolution and
productive decision making skills.
