NETWORK+FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTER NETWORKING
Two semesters, two credits
Prerequisite: Algebra 3-4 or concurrent enrollment in College Prep Algebra I or *AP Prep Algebra II: Adv. Systems
This course in designed for students who have a strong desire to pursue a career in the Information Technology field. In this class, students will be exploring the details of networking, focusing on the use of TCP/IP. The course will focus on the two main objectives of the Network+, exam-knowledge of networking technology, and networking practices. Students will also have the opportunity to practice simple wiring, develop network schematic drawings, and troubleshoot networks. They will also be expected to develop a web-based portfolio of topics in the course. Students completing this course will be prepared for the Network+ certification exam (at the student’s expense), which is essential on a computer and information technology resume.
DIGITAL IMAGING
One semester, one credit
Prerequisite: English 52-62, English 53-63, English 73-83, or concurrent enrollment in American Studies
This course will be taught in the Curriculum Lab on PC computers using primarily Adobe Photoshop Software. The student will master advanced digital imaging skills including shooting, manipulating and printing. Photographs will be digitally shot as well as scanned from various sources and combined to demonstrate a range of theories and techniques from fine art and photography. Students will produce a portfolio of a minimum of twenty images that reflect a variety of content and photographic techniques, effective use of elements of art and principles of design, and a variety of creative and original imagery.
MULTIMEDIA AND WEBSITE CREATIONS
One semester, one credit
Prerequisite: English 52-62, English 53-63, English 73-83, or concurrent enrollment in American Studies
One semester of art preferred. This is a course for students who are interested in working collaboratively to develop multimedia projects and websites on the computer. With an emphasis on design, the course will include storyboards, navigation, fonts, colors, graphics, animation, visual theme and style, and overall project appearance. Students will be introduced to various software including Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Fireworks, and peripheral equipment including scanners and digital cameras.
DESKTOP PUBLISHING
One semester, one credit
Prerequisite: Computerized Keyboarding I.
This course will focus on how to creatively combine text and graphics in a way that will produce professionally designed publications. This is a multimedia class where students will learn fundamental graphic design elements and techniques to use with any desktop publishing program. Students will be designing eye-catching publications such as newsletters, brochures, banners, ads, and reports, using advanced Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher.
MICROSOFT EXCEL – SPREADSHEETS
One semester, one credit
Recommended Prerequisite: Computerized Keyboarding 1
This course will provide students the opportunity to learn how to create spreadsheets that can be used to perform personal, business, and scientific calculations effortlessly. This course will show students how to use Microsoft Excel’s powerful charting, database management and macro programming capabilities. Students will learn such features as navigating, formatting, inputting data, charting, mapping, and linking. Features such as goal seek and conditional formatting will be taught to provide an avenue to students to make sound personal and business decisions based upon spreadsheets produced.
