• Home Visits – Outreach
Workers have the flexibility to leave the building to
work with parents on needs for school or for their home
life.
• Maintain a Case Load –
The Outreach Worker will maintain a case load of student
who they will meet with on a regular basis. All students
on the case load must meet TAOEP truancy guidelines.
• Establish Community Relationships
– The Outreach Worker tries to establish working
relationships with community agencies that may be of use
to the families. These agencies may include The Urban
League, Regional Office of Education (ROE), District Attorneys
Office, Parkland, First Call for Help, Best Interest For
Children, C-U Public Heath, Job Core, and other such agencies.
• Homeless Referral – If
a family is experiencing housing issues, the Outreach
Worker will fill out the appropriate forms, submit them
to Central Office and make sure ROE is aware of the housing
situation. While the Deputy Superintendent for the district
is the official Homeless Liaison, the Outreach Worker
for the building will ensure that the student has the
information they need on where to receive services and
information to assist them. The Outreach Worker is responsible
in directing students to in-house services such as how
to obtain school supplies, who they need to talk with
to get help with school work as well as help with referrals
to outside agencies.
• Transportation – On occasion
the Outreach Worker can provide transportation for a students
and their family. Some examples would be to come to parent/teacher
conference and to make appointments that related directly
to their TOAEP case such as court appointments.
• Attendance Letter and Truant Officer Request
– The Outreach Worker is responsible for reporting
to ROE when a student has been absence from school in
accordance to the Compulsive Attendance Laws. A Truant
Officer Request goes out after 5, 10, 15 and 20 full day
absences (four or more classes in one day are considered
absent for the day.) ROE also requires that the school
send out a letter to the parent informing them of their
students’ attendance. After 14 absences a student
is referred to the Abolish Chronic Truancy Program (A.C.T.)
After 20 absences, a petition is formulated for the student
• School Representative –
The schools Outreach Worker is the school representative
in all truancy related court cases.
