Welcome to our library
Prairie School is fortunate to have a comprehensive library for students, faculty and parents.
Our collection contains books, magazines, videos, CDs, pictures, computer programs and much more.
Our librarian offers a complete curriculum in researching skills and reader guidance to all K-5 classes who visit the library weekly during the school year.
"He is wise who knows the sources of knowledge - where it is written and where it is to be found."

Library Frequently Asked Questions:
How can I get a library card?
How do I borrow books?
What are my responsibilities when I check out materials?
What about fines?
Where do I return materials?
How do I find books?
What if a book is not on the shelf?
Can I check out videos?
Each student and staff member is assigned a library card that remains in the library. Parents, student teachers and other members of the Prairie Community can sign up for a card at the circulation desk.
If a staff member is at the circulation desk, just bring your materials to the desk and you will be checked out. If no one is at the desk, you may leave your name on a piece of paper with the materials and a staff member will check them out when they return. The library is open during the school day.
What are my responsibilities when I check out materials?
When you check out materials from the library, you make an agreement to return those materials on time. You also agree to take care of those materials. If a book becomes lost or damaged, please notify the librarian.
The school library does not collect fines for late books. Fines are collected for lost or damaged books. This fine is usually the replacement price of the book.
When the library is open, put the materials in the slot in the front of the desk. If the library is closed, return them to the office with a request that they be sent to the library.
We use an online catalog called OPAC. If you need help using it, please ask for help. Of course, you may always get assistance from the librarian.
What if a book is not on the shelf?
If you cannot find a book that is listed as "in", check with the staff. The book may be misshelved, in repair or missing. Ask the librarian for help. If a book is checked out, we will gladly place a hold on the book and notify you when it is in.
Audio-visual materials, including videos, are available for teacher check-out only.
