Connecting Information and Literature Resources, Students, Teachers, Parents, and the Wider School Community
Instructional Goals of the Leal School Library Media Program
- To ensure that each child acquires the information literacy skills necessary to become a self-reliant, lifelong learner.
- To provide a rich literature-related program which will play a vital part in the development of lifelong relationships with libraries, books, and reading.
Leal Elementary School Library Media Center was built in 2001. It houses a collection of over 17,000 books and learning resources; an instructional area; and a table area for learning and study. An online catalog provides information about and access to the collection in the library.
The library media curriculum emphasizes reading/literature enrichment, information literacy, and technology integration. Library media activities are closely tied to national and state learning standards and the classroom curriculum. Use of the library and library resources are guided by the Leal Library Policies and Procedures.
