The multicultural/multilingual nature of the school population provides a particularly rich learning environment for King School’s students. The presence in the building of teachers from other countries makes it possible to provide instruction in a language other than English to most of our ELL students.
Most students from other language backgrounds have the opportunity for instruction throughout their native language. Students are provided instruction in reading and writing their own language, since the best predictor for learning English well is a strong foundation in the native language.
In addition, some help may be provided through the native language for understanding work in the regular and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Students who are limited in English proficiency receive special instruction in half-day ESL classes. They learn English while studying science, social studies and health.

Collaborative Framework for Student Learning
We implement a Collaborative Framework for Student Learning, which includes a Response to Intervention (RtI), Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL.)
Student learning is monitored and assessed often using a variety of research and evidence based tools. Our systems of intervention provide all students with additional time and support for learning.
