Substitute Teacher Opportunities
To apply to be a substitute teacher for the Urbana School District visit the Jean Burkholder Administrative Building, 205 N. Race St., Urbana to pick up an application packet.
Substitute Teacher Requirements
FIRST YEAR
- Application
- Results of current TB test (less than one year old)
- Current Illinois Teaching Certificate (must be registered in Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education)
- Completed Substitute Employment Packet
- Attendance at a Bloodborne Pathogen inservice
- Copies of College Transcripts
- Social Security Statement
- Copy of Physical Examination (less than one year old)
SECOND YEAR AND THEREAFTER
- Updated copy of registered teaching certificate
- Annual Bloodborne Pathogen inservice refresher
- Updated changes to tax withholding forms
- Updated preference form
Substitute teachers must have or acquire an Illinois Teaching Certificate. Application for certification should be made to Judith Pacey, Regional Office of Education Champaign-Ford Counties, 200 S. Fredrick, Rantoul, IL 61866, (217) 893-3219. The certificate must be registered with the Regional Office for each school year the teacher substitutes.
TB tests may be taken at the Champaign-Urbana Public Health Clinic, 217 N. Broadway, Urbana, (217) 239-7827 on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a $5 fee if you live in Champaign County and a $10 fee if you live outside the county. TB tests also are accepted from your doctor or clinic.
All completed forms, TB test results, physical, certification of attendance at a Bloodborne Pathogen inservice and Illinois Teaching Certificate must be brought to the Jean Burkholder Administrative Building, 205 N. Race St., Urbana.
