Teacher Recertification
Since 2003, there have been many changes in teacher certification and recertification regulations. It is the responsibility of teachers to know the requirements and process to maintain their certification. This page is designed as a basic resource to help teachers with the recertification process.
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has created a NEW (Fall of 2006) online system for recording Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs) and filing for recertification. ISBE is “strongly encouraging” that all teachers complete this step online through Educator Certification System (ECS) from the ISBE website and complete the Assurance of Completion online. The ECS website replaces the CeRTS and OTIS websites as a one stop spot for recertification.
To log in to ECS you will need your last name, and social security number. Your OTIS and CeRTS login will not work; however, all information from OTIS and CeRTS is supposed to have migrated to the new system.
Your recertification CANNOT be processed until you have completed your Assurance of Completion and submitted it to the Regional Office of Education - Champaign-Ford Counties (ROE). It is very helpful if you have your CPDU Evidence of Completion forms organized before you start the recertification process.
Please note that there are many new exemptions for the CPDU requirements. For example, if you held a MA before your recertification cycle, you only need to verify completion of 80 CPDUs (instead of the 120).
