To Urbana High School Parents: How to OPT OUT Military Recruitment in Schools Under the No Child Left Behind Legislation

Under the No Child Left Behind federal legislation, high schools receiving Title I funds must provide the name, address and phone number of every student to the United States Department of Defense (Public Law 107-110, Section 9528). However, this law does contain a provision for parents to OPT OUT of this requirement.

In order to opt out, the parent or legal guardian must send a written letter to the high school administration, stating the child's full name, grade level, and that you do not want your child's name, address, and phone number made available to the U.S. Department of Defense, as per Paragraph 2, Subsection (a) of Section 9528 of Public Law 107-110.

Students who are 18 years of age may submit their own letter, in lieu of the parent or guardian.

Please print the name of the letter submitter, and provide a written signature as well, and mail this letter to:
