Spotlight on Urbana Alumni Association

The Urbana Alumni Association was established in 1995 to enhance the quality and scope of the educational experiences of students in the Urbana School District through programs and participation in activities. Since its establishment, the UAA has contributed more than $700,000 to support and improve Urbana’s schools. Their focus is mainly on the middle school and high school, where Urbana students come together. Currently, the UAA is leading a project to support upgrades to Urbana school buildings by offering the community a chance to purchase personalized bricks to be paved into the new Urbana Athletic Gateway.

Since the organization is completely volunteer-based, support comes from annual membership dues and fund-raising events such as the Cash Bash, Golf Outing, as well as from special fund-drives. Proceeds are distributed through grants to District 116 teachers and programs. The funds also support a variety of projects from computers and special library collections to equipment and renovations for athletic programs. Urbana Athletic Complex

In addition to twice-yearly awards to teachers who apply for grants, the UAA is now working to make possible two large projects on the high school-middle school campuses: the athletic gateway and a renovation of the UHS auditorium. For a limited time, Urbana Alumni and members of the community can purchase personalized bricks that will be set into the grand walkway being installed next to the high school football and soccer fields. The bricks will be sold in two size increments, 4"x8" and 12"x12" and can be purchased through the Alumni Association website.

There are many ways to donate to the Urbana Alumni Association.  The redesign of the UAA website at, allows for secure donations to be made online using PayPal or credit card. Patrons wishing to support Urbana Alumni Association can also find a link to the Schucks eScrip program. Schnucks and other participating merchants will make contributions to your chosen group, based on purchases made by you, using a registered eScrip card.

You don’t have to be an alumnus to join UAA, just share their goal of helping Urbana’s teachers, students and community. Download a membership form at, or email for more information.
