Nominations Are Now Open for Awards throughout Urbana School District
The Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation (CUSF) is encouraging the community to submit nominations for three alumni awards to be presented on May 7 at the 2011 CUSF Gala, the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Local Hero Award and the Local Business Community Impact Award.
The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates of the Unit 4 and District 116 High Schools, including Champaign Centennial High School, Champaign Central High School and Urbana High School, whose achievements, strength of character, and citizenship serve as models to inspire and challenge today's youth. The Local Hero Award and the Local Business Community Impact Award are two new award categories that were added this year. They honor graduates of Unit 4 or District 116 who have benefited the local community through their commitment to philanthropy, service, volunteerism and support. The Local Business Community Impact Award also focuses on employing local high school graduates.
Gene Amberg Excellence in Teaching Endowed Chair Award is presented to an Urbana School District teacher every three years for excellence in teaching. Professional colleagues, friends, and family continue to contribute to this endowment and may nominate any tenured, full-time classroom teacher in Urbana School District whom they believe exemplifies the Eight Traits of Excellence in Teaching.
