Superintendent's Message continued
I had an administrator once ask me how would you train or teach someone about the "caring spirit." I was at a loss for words, because I believe each of us reach this understanding in different ways. I'm not sure if there is a staff development program that can mass produce this "caring spirit" but I truly believe that the exceptional educators have it and you know it when you see it. My belief is that the "caring spirit" does not mean to allow students to do whatever they would like to do because that would make them happy. Sometimes a "caring spirit" means to correct a student because you care enough to make sure that they are being taught how to do something the right and appropriate way even though they may disagree. I have spoken before about educators as "merchants of hope" and in line with that is the notion of the "caring spirit." My hope for each of us is that we demonstrate to our students and each other the "caring spirit" and they in turn develop their own "caring spirit." Dr. Preston Williams |
