NEW! WRITING FOR MAGAZINES - Do you enjoy writing? Have you ever wondered how you could get your articles published in magazines? It may be easier than you think. Instructor Deb Karplus is an experienced freelance writer and has had several papers published in professional journals, had a column with Young Money magazine and has had numerous articles appear online and printed in hard copy national magazines. She will introduce some of the basics of magazine writing in this two-part class. Class begins Feb. 2.

MEMOIRS – YOUR LIFE STORY - Your life story is unique and should be recorded for yourself and for your family. In this course, you will learn seven styles for writing memoirs. Since this is your “slice of life,” you choose the style that is right for you. Shirley will teach shortcuts to successful writing, inexpensive self-publishing and a memorable means for handing out the copies to those you chose to receive them. WRITING BOOKS FOR CHILDREN - Whether you are interested in publishing books for children, or improving your writing so you can share your stories with family or friends, this class is for you. Join us as we explore the writing process through participation in writing exercises, group critiques and discussion of excerpts from popular children’s books. Learn about character and plot development, voice, rhythm and rhyme. Information about the submission and publishing process will also be provided. ADVANCED WRITING BOOKS FOR CHILDREN - Get ready to move to the next level with your writing. In this class, participants will work toward developing a children’s book manuscript that is ready for submission to publishers. Weekly writing assignments and an emphasis on group critiques and manuscript revision will show the way.
