NEW!  ARGENTINE TANGO – Tango was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is a popular social dance worldwide.  These workshops are designed to familiarize students with the basic structure of Argentine Tango as a dance.  Students will be taught the basic form, style and technique of the tango walk, the essential components of leading and following, recognition of the different rhythms of the tango family (tango, milonga and vals) and some basic principles of navigation on the dance floor.  Starting from the common base of walking and partner connection, each workshop will develop a different structure of basic steps for dancing tango.  The skills learned in a workshop will provide students sufficient skills to dance Argentine Tango at a social dance.  Taking both workshops will provide students with a larger repertoire of movements for dancing.  No partner required. NEW!  BICYCLE SAFETY FOR ADULTS – Do you want the confidence to bicycle more often?  Would you like to learn the Rules of the Road and how to safely bicycle on local streets?  Then this class is for you!  Join local League Cycling Instructors, certified through the League of American Cyclists, to learn:  Illinois Rules of the Road, Bicycle handling and traffic skills, How to fix basic mechanical problems and Safety – common causes of crashes and how to avoid them.  This will be a two-hour classroom presentation and interaction program designed to equip you with the basic information to bicycle more confidently.  Interested students can then take the Bicycle Safety Skills for Adults class that offers parking lot drills to practice bicycle handling skills. NEW!  BICYCLE SAFETY SKILLS FOR ADULTS – Do you feel you lack the skills to bicycle safely?  Would you like to learn basic bicycle riding skills from a certified instructor?  Sign up for this class and you will learn and practice basic bicycle handling skills.  Local League Cycling Instructors, certified through the League of American Cyclists, will demonstrate and assist students in learning and practicing the following skills:  Starting & Stopping, Straight Line & Shifting, Scanning, Scan/Signal/Turn, Quick Stop, Rock Dodge, Avoidance Turn and Quick Turn.  This class is open to students 16 and older (16 & 17 year olds must have parental permission) who can ride a bicycle.  This is a two-hour class that will be held off-road in a parking lot.  Students must bring their own bicycle and helmet.    Class meets May 3.

GENEALOGY BASICS - Have you ever wondered how far back you can trace family roots?  Do you know where your ancestors came from, when they settled in America, and why they came here?  Instructor Deb Karplus is a teacher with a passion for research and has been published in Ancestry Magazine.  Deb has explored her family roots uncovering 11 generations and located a relative missing for 75 years!  In this two-part class, she will discuss the basics of genealogy, including pedigree chart protocol and how to use databases and Internet resources.  Become the family sleuth with us and discover what makes you who you are.  Class begins Mar. 7.

INTRODUCTION TO JUGGLING - Come learn to juggle and impress your friends and family.  Students will learn two basic juggling patterns; Cascade and Shower, and add basic tricks to either pattern.  By the end of the class you should be able to juggle using either pattern and build your own routines.  Class begins Jan. 25.  Instructor: Henry Radcliffe.

NEW! THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A DOULA – What is a doula?  A doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth.  She does not provide medical procedures, such as vitals, exams, etc., but provides all other comfort and relaxation measures using techniques such as positioning, guided imagery, focus and massage.  Expecting parents come and learn everything there is to know about the benefits of having a certified childbirth doula assist with your labor and delivery.  In this four-session class you will learn what a doula is and how a doula can assist you.  You will also learn several types of relaxation techniques and comfort measures that you can utilize during your birthing experience.  Class begins Mar. 5.  Instructor: Sarah Summers, CD(DONA).

BEGINNING YOGA - Learn the basic yoga postures (asanas).  Practicing these will increase your strength, flexibility and overall sense of well-being.  For class wear comfortable loose fitting clothes and your bare feet.  The class is taught by a long-time yoga practitioner and student from the Yoga Institute of Champaign-Urbana.  Instructor: Barb Bair.

KEMPO SELF-DEFENSE CLASS - Learn effective self-defense against an attacker, build self-confidence and exercise the body and mind.  Kiyoujute Ryu Kempo teaches blocks, punches, kicks, throws and counter joint techniques blended into an effective self-defense system.  We train in a safe non-competitive manner.  Although safe, this class includes vigorous exercise.  Please check with your doctor to make sure this is the class for you.  No previous experience necessary.
