PLANNING A PERENNIAL GARDEN – Fall is a good time to get a head start on planning and planting some of your plants for your flower garden.  You can have a great looking garden full of flowers for many seasons to come.  Learn about hardy perennial plants good for sun and shade to start or supplement your garden.  Elaine will share plant starts from her garden, so bring a bag or container to take home several starts.  Class meets Oct. 4.

STRIKING FALL ARRANGEMENTS – Learn the basic elements of floral design to make striking fall arrangements.  A variety of greenery, vases and techniques will be explored to make 3 to 4 arrangements.  Supply fee for flowers is approximately $30 payable first night of class.  Please bring floral/wire cutters, scissors, needle nose pliers and newspapers (for easy clean up) to class.  Class begins Oct. 9.

EVERGREEN WREATH – There is nothing like a fresh evergreen wreath on your front door to say Happy Holidays!  In this class you will make your own 20-24 inch wreath and decorate it with a pretty bow and pinecones for your door this holiday.  Supply fee of $12 payable in class.  Class meets Dec. 5.

NEW!  DESIGNING A VIBRANT, HEALTHY SHADE GARDEN – Create a shade garden using plants with a variety of colors, textures, heights and shades of green.  Discover which perennials, annuals, bi-annuals and generation plants such as trees and shrubs, work well in the shade.  Jean will provide free plant starts to interested students.  Class begins Sept. 10.

NEW!  ORGANIC GARDENING WITH HERBS, FLOWERS & VEGGIES – Explore the secrets of organic gardening using flowers, herbs and vegetables and learn how to improve their health and vitality.  Gain a better understanding of how rich organic soil, the proper sun exposure, good watering techniques and exposure to good insects can produce vibrant plants without damaging the environment.  Discover which herbs can improve the health of your vegetable and flower gardens.  Jean will offer free plant starts to all students.  Class begins Sept 11.

BUTTERFLY GARDENING IN CHAMPAIGN COUNTY – Create an inviting flower garden that will attract a variety of butterflies.  Learn how to identify many common Champaign County butterflies and how to lure them to your garden habitat.  Jean will give free butterfly plant seeds to students.  Class begins Oct. 11.

NEW!  MEDICINAL HERB GARDENING – Begin your fascinating journey by studying the healing power of herbs.  This is an introductory class to learn about herbs that help lower cholesterol and blood pressure; relieve insomnia; aid digestion; whiten teeth and improve bad breath and gingivitis; relieve menstrual cramps; repel troublesome insects such as ants, fleas, Japanese beetles, house flies, white flies and aphids; heal wounds and sooth sore joints; relieve depression and anxiety; draw out toxins caused by insect stings and other wounds; condition and thicken the hair; as well as herbs that can be used as disinfectants, antiseptics, astringents and diuretics.  Jean will have available free dried herbs to interested students.  Class begins Nov. 13.
