NEW!  DIY VEGETARIAN “MEATS” – Make your own vegetarian meat alternatives and never have to buy prepackaged again.  You’ll learn to make grill favorites like brats and burgers and breakfast classics like bacon and sausage.  We will be utilizing several different seitan-making techniques, beans and soy products to make tasty mock-meats and you’ll get to taste it all!  Class meets Oct. 18.  Instructor: Jenna Zeidler.

EASY EVERYDAY BREAD – Do you love fresh bread from the bakery but are horrified at the price?  Are you nervous about baking with yeast?  Do you think making bread is too time consuming and complicated to bother with?  Are you worried you don’t have the right tools?  Do you have a bowl, a spoon and a cookie sheet in your kitchen?  If so, then this class is for you!  Based on the book “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day,” you will learn how to make fabulous home-baked bread with only 4 ingredients, minimal prep time, no fancy tools and best of all, no kneading!  This technique is easy and fast enough to bake fresh bread every day and flexible enough that you can make rolls, pizza crust, etc., all from the same dough.  I’ll show you how in class!  Please bring a covered container to class to take home dough.  Please come hungry!  Class meets Oct. 10.  Instructor: Birgit McCall.

PARTY TRAY – Prepare a party tray of festive foods for holiday guests.  Men who like something robust and women who want something fancy will be pleased with a party tray that can satisfy both.  The instructor will take into account that foods are appreciated with both the eye and the taste buds while saying “Welcome to my home.”  (An optional cookbook by the instructor/author will be available for $15.)  Class meets Sept. 24.  Instructor: Shirley Splittstoesser.

DESSERTS – DELECTABLE AND DECADENT – Come hungry and treat yourself to desserts.  Desserts are not meant to be calorie free, but they can be designed as small servings (as these are) to remove the temptation to finish a larger portion the next day.  Cobbler, Glazed Strawberries, Bread Pudding with Orange Sauce, Lemon Bars, a cupcake in a minute and a Single-serving Birthday Cake (for those times you celebrate alone) are on the menu.  You sample each and take home the recipes.  (An optional cookbook by the instructor/author will be available for $15.)  Class meets Nov. 8.  Instructor: Shirley Splittstoesser.

MOZZARELLA AND RICOTTA CHEESE – Within 30 minutes we will turn 1 gallon of whole milk into mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese.  The mozzarella will be served with a vine ripened roasted tomato soup with basil pesto ricotta cream and French bread made with the collected whey.  Come to class and let Tien show you a fourth use for the collected whey.  Class meets Sept. 20.
