Certified Nurse Assistant

We hold two classes during the fall semester and two classes during the spring semester.  No classes during the summer.  The class is free.

The classroom phase of the class is 5 ˝ to 6 weeks, depending on holidays.  It is held at Urbana Adult Education from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The clinical phase of the class is the last 11 days and is held at Carle Arbours in Savoy (now known as Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center), 8:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (1/2 hour longer than classroom phase.)

You must show proof of graduating high school or passing the GED, you must have at least a 9th grade reading level, and you cannot have any felonies or misdemeanors which would prevent you from working as a CNA in Illinois.  Criminal histories DO NOT expire.  If you have questions about anything on your record, please call the Illinois Department of Public Health at 217-785-5133.  Also, some frequently asked questions about the CNA program in Illinois can be found online at http://www.nurseaidetesting.com/info/faq.htm.

We start the registration process in person with some preliminary paperwork, and set up a time for you to return for testing and further paperwork, then you will return a third time for interviewing with the instructors.  You may NOT bring children or visitors to any of these appointments, or you will be turned away.

Our next registration walk-in day is Friday, March 5, 2010 for the March class (class schedule not determined yet).  We open that day at 7:00 a.m., and we will take the first 75 people in line (people line up early).  Approximately 30 students will end up in the CNA class.  Bring proof of high school graduation (diploma or transcript from a recognized, accredited school) or your passing GED scores or certificate.  If your school wants to fax us the transcript, the number is 217-337-4987, no cover sheet necessary—we’ll hold it until registration day.
