At Wiley Elementary and in all Urbana schools, we believe that “educating everyone takes everyone.” Wiley is a better school because of the participation of many volunteers – UI students, community members and family volunteers. There is a place for you at Wiley. Contact Lara Orr (email@example.com) if you are interested in volunteering
Volunteer assignments are based on the volunteer’s interests/skills and the needs of teachers. There are many ways you can help.
Tutors provide much needed academic support to students in need of individual direction, re-teaching or general homework help. A minimum one hour per week commitment is required.
Volunteers can assist in the classroom to help with small group work, preparing materials for class projects, creating bulletin boards, making games or study materials, or sharing knowledge and skills pertinent to curriculum
Mentors provide emotional and relational support to students who need an adult friend and role model. Mentors commit to one hour per week for a minimum of one year, with the expectation that they will continue for multiple years with the same student. http://cu1to1.org
Each year Wiley has many special events that welcome volunteer help. These fun and enriching activities include: Battle of the Books, Coyote Book Exchange, Walk-a-thon, Book Fairs, Family Math, Reading, and Science Nights, as well as many more.
