Feb. 19 Board meeting synopsis

Board meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month. (There are no board meetings scheduled in July.) The public is welcome to attend.

Support "Read Across America" March 1

"Read Across America" is a great event put on by the NEA (National Education Association). For more information visit www.nea.org/readacross/index.html

Barnes and Noble is having a Bookfair on Sat., March 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for "Read Across America" so that we can get additional books to distribute. A percentage of the net sale will be donated to "Read Across America" if the buyer presents this Bookfair Voucher. Barnes and Noble is located at 65 E. Marketview Dr. in Champaign.

Openings available at Washington Early Childhood for ages 3-5

Win Big Bucks from the Urbana Alumni Assoc. Cash Bash Feb. 16!

Have you ever participated in the Urbana Alumni Association's Cash Bash? You could win BIG bucks! The 11th annual Cash Bash will be held Saturday, February 16, at the Laborer's Union Hall, 108 Anthony Drive in Urbana. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the dinner and raffle starts at 7 p.m.

All proceeds from the Cash Bash benefit Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School. Urbana Middle School just received over $9,600 for various projects!

There are only 300 tickets available so don't wait! Tickets cost $125. You can split the cost of a ticket and go in as a group. You can buy tickets at Urbana Middle School or Urbana High School. You can also purchase tickets at TIS College Bookstore in Campustown, or at the Bella Home Store on Main Street in Urbana.

UHS Drama Club presents "Tom's Midnight Garden"

The Urbana High School Children's show is back for the 20th year! This year we bring "Tom's Midnight Garden," a beloved British 1950s classic about a boy's nightly voyage to a Victorian past.

February 7, 8, 9, 15, and 16
7 p.m.
Tickets: $4 for children, $6 for adults
Location: Urbana High School Auditorium (on the west side of building)

Quarantined because his brother has measles, Tom is startled one night to hear a grandfather clock strike thirteen! Slipping out of bed, he discovers a beautiful Victorian garden of the 1880s and meets the unhappy orphan, Hatty.

Band Festival TONIGHT Feb. 11

You are invited to the District #116 Band Festival on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the Urbana Middle School Gymnasium. The concert will conclude around 8:30 p.m.

The UHS Band Boosters are offering a chili dinner, and UMS Band Parents are offering dessert in the cafetorium at 5:00 p.m. The UMS and UHS Jazz Bands will provide entertainment during dinner as well.

The concert will showcase the district's band program by featuring 6 to 8 minute presentations by the All-City 5th Grade and 6th & 7th Grade Beginning Bands, the 6th Grade Intermediate Band, the 7th Grade Band, the 8th Grade Band, the UHS Symphonic Band, and the UHS Wind Symphony. The concert will conclude by having all 350 musicians join together to play "Ode to Joy."
