Tiger Marching Band Night Sept. 22

Join us for "Tiger Marching Band Night" on Friday, September 22, 2006.

Before the Urbana High School football game versus Mattoon High School on September 22, the marching band will perform a pre-game concert at 6:15 p.m. at Urbana High School's McKinley Field. Band students from Urbana Middle School have been invited to perform with the Tiger Marching Band during the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. and will play with the band in the stands during the game.

Under the direction of Marching Band Director Mark Day, the Tiger Marching Band will perform its 2006 field show at halftime featuring the music of John Williams. Williams has composed the Star Wars movie soundtracks, as well as the themes for the NBC News, the 1987 International Special Olympics, and the 1984, 1988, and 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Band students from both schools have been cooperating on music provided during the football game.

This event is co-sponsored by the UHS Band Boosters.

Thanks to Junior League for League Locker donation

A huge thank you to the Junior League of Champaign Urbana for their recent contributions to our schools through the annual League Locker project. In addition to the donation of school supplies for our children in need, the Junior League also provides each of our schools with financial resources to help with the cost of field trips, physical education projects and art projects. The Urbana School District extends our gratitude to the Junior League, Rogard's Office Plus in Champaign and the project co-chairmen, Ann Dill and Dana Kennedy.

Urbana Aquatic Center temporarily closed - 9/7/06 UPDATE

[posted 9/7-11/13]

September 6, 2006 Update

Due to the July 24 fire at the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center (UIAC) and the need to replace the PoolPak, the heating and cooling unit for the building, it will probably be 12-15 weeks until the aquatic center is operational again.

The School District and Urbana Park District are looking at ways to resolve the issue of passholders who are missing out on swim time. The Park District has been able to find an alternative location for swim and water aerobics classes at the indoor pool at Campus Connections Apartments on North Lincoln Avenue.  Regrettably, since there is a shortage of local indoor pools with the capacity to provide a workable solution for UIAC passholders, the lap swimmers and users who do their own water aerobics probably will not have a place to swim until the center reopens.

USD administration is intent on keeping our parents and community informed about status of the aquatic center. Better efforts will be made by coaches to update swimmers and parents. Anyone with a specific question may contact Public Relations Coordinator Kathy Wallig at 217-384-3650.

In the meantime, the girls swim team is practicing at the Champaign Country Club until the end of this month. Hopefully we will have worked out a practice schedule with the Champaign YMCA for indoor time starting in October. Boys swimming doesn't start until mid-November and UHS athletic staff are working on a temporary venue for the guys as well.

We thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this situation.
