UMS Family Picnic at Blair Park

5:30-6:30 p.m.
UMS families are invited to bring a picnic supper. Pizza slices, soda and ice cream will be available for sale at the park. Please consider parking your car at the school, then walking to the park. After the picnic, you are welcome to attend the UMS Open House from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.
Urbana Aquatic Center temporarily closed - 9/1/06 UPDATE

A July 24 fire damaged the roof of the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center, which is jointly owned by the Urbana Park and School Districts. While the roof has since been repaired, the heating and cooling unit for the building, the PoolPak, was heavily damaged.
The insurance company has been provided with the estimates it needs to authorize work.
"Either extensive repair or complete replacement is what will happen next," said Mike Hartter, Aquatics Maintenance Supervisor for the Urbana Park District. The PoolPak unit is a specialized unit that exchanges and dehumidifies air in the building, but also conditions the pool water. "It is the heart of the system, and until that unit is online we cannot filter air or water. So we cannot reopen," Hartter said. "Basically, we had a small fire in the worst place possible - right next to the PoolPak's computer system, power supply and electronic controls," he added.
Reopening will not take place before the end of October, and possibly even later due to the nature of the damage.
Urbana High School Swim Team practices have been relocated to Crystal Lake Pool in the near term. PE classes will also need to be rescheduled.
Urbana Park District Swim Lessons and Water Aerobic Variety classes will take place as planned. They have been relocated to the indoor pool at Campus Connections Apartments on North Lincoln Avenue. The Urbana Park District is contacting all registrants by phone and/or e-mail this week to inform participants of the change in location.

- Wednesday, January 3, 2007: School resumes
- Wednesday, June 6, 2007: Last day of school, if all five snow days are used (May 30 if none are used.)
