At the May 16, 2006 Board Meeting, the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation awarded a total of $17,531 this year in grants to 11 staff members in 6 schools.
And the Urbana Alumni Association announced its 2nd round of grants for this school year, totaling $8,638, to 4 staff members at UMS and UHS. The UAA's practice is to award half of the cost of a project, but they made an exception for Urbana Middle School teacher Diane Meister. In presenting the grant awards, C. K. Tina Gunsalus said Meister was always willing to help out the UAA in any capacity she could and she was awarded 100 percent of her grant program cost.
Our deep appreciation goes to both organizations for their generosity!

Thank you, Urbana and community, for supporting the Flossie Wiley 4th graders in their "Hope Floats" Katrina fundraiser at Pages For All Ages Bookstore in Savoy. The May 5 raffle and book sales raised over $1,000 for the St. Bernard Unified School in St. Bernard's Parish, and Pages will send over $2,000 worth of new books to the St. Bernard school library. We extend a huge thank you to Pages For All Ages for giving time and space to this project, and for donating the cost of shipping the books to New Orleans.
