Illinois State Senator-Elect Mike Frerichs was the guest of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School kindergarten teacher and her class on December 6. The kindergarten students made a "congratulations" card for Frerichs to hang in his new office in Springfield. They also made a list of what they thought would be appropriate responsibilities for a state senator, including picking up litter, raising his hand, being nice to people, and cleaning up messes in the House.

The 9th Annual Provena Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary Children's Art Project framed artworks are now on display throughout the hospital's waiting areas and hallways. The project extends to 21 area schools in Urbana, Champaign, St. Joseph, and Mahomet, in which students in grades K-5 are invited to submit art, based upon the recommendation of their art teachers.

The Urbana School District has four works displayed: Thomas Paine student Gerald Jackson has a piece in the Emergency Department waiting room. Dondre Anderson of Prairie School has art on display in the Cardiac Rehab Unit.  Wiley School student Emma Robbins and Yankee Ridge student Sylvia Machr both have pieces in the MRI Waiting Area.

The art is on display for a year and then a new group of students are chosen to display their work.
