[featured 9/15/06 - 9/19/06]
Mark your calendar! U.S. Constitution Day will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 18.
On Sept. 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed, an act that shaped the history of this country.
Urbana elementary teachers and social studies teachers at Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School are planning to discuss the U.S. Constitution or issues relating to the Constitution and individual rights on September 18. Many will give unique lessons or activities to honor the U.S. Constitution in their classes.
Federal law states that all school children and government employees will take time to learn about our Constitution on Constitution Day. This federal mandate is linked to funding that our district receives including Title I, Title II, Title V, the Teaching American History Grants and the 21st Century Learning Communities Grant.
