Urbana Police honor UMS and UHS Principals

Urbana Middle School Principal Nancy Clinton (center) and Urbana High School Principal Dr. John Woodward were honored by the Urbana Police Department during its annual awards ceremony last month.
Acting Police Chief Mike Bily (left) presented the awards to our two educators, citing the principals for their willingness to work with UPD to prevent serious situations from occurring on school grounds and thanking them for their dedication to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff.

Christopher Moyer, Urbana High School Class of 1957, has been chosen to receive this year's Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award, representing UHS. Retiring as associate dean from the University of Illinois College of Fine Arts and Applied Arts School of Architecture, Professor Moyer now serves the Rafiki Foundation, designing and constructing orphanages throughout Africa. We salute Chris Moyer for his leadership and influence on numerous UI students, and for his generosity to thousands of African children.
The luncheon to honor Chris Moyer, and Champaign alum jazz musician Cecil Bridgewater, is May 5 at the Hawthorne Suites in Champaign. Please call the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation, 217-351-7512, for tickets.

Summer School Teachers Needed

Summer School Teachers are needed at Urbana High School from June 7, 2006 – July 20, 2006.
If interested, fill out an application and return it by April 21 to Polly Washington, Urbana High School, 1002 S. Race Street, Urbana, IL 61801.
Summer School will be held from June 7 to July 20, 2006 (Monday through Thursday). Classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a full year course (2 semesters), or from either 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a. m. or 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a one-semester course. No classes on July 3 or July 4.
Summer School pay is $25.00 per instructional hour.
Positions are open in the following classes. You may apply for more than one class. You must have Illinois certification and an endorsement in the area(s) for which you apply to teach.
